Friday 11am, Matt G

In response to Liz Canner:
I thought that Symphony of a City was extremely thought provoking and (dare I say) writerly. The fact that it is interesting for people to watch others who live in the same city, go about their everyday business is extraordinary. The fact that, despite all of our networking technologies, we can still find entertainment in immersing ourselves in the routines of other people is surprising. What makes her documentary interesting? Is it the shock value associated with mentally engaging in a lifestyle that is different from your own? Whatever it is, the success of her documentary was based on our desire to understand other people. Without such a desire networking sites like facebook and myspace would be useless.
